Yay! Finally a new lower low!! This is my first real progress in twenty days. I was definitely hampered in my progress by Halloween and the copious amounts of candy involved. Also making an impact was my inability to string together enough beer free sober days lately, though I’m doing better now. What I find interesting about my sobriety journey is the juxtaposition of beer to spirits like whiskey, vodka, and gin.

The Whisky A Go Go is A Gone Gone
Lately I’ve been thinking about the voice of alcohol in my mind (affectionately named Drinkie) and why it only seems to want beer. I mean, I have plenty of whiskey, vodka, tequila, gin, and other fine spirits on hand. Bottles and bottles and bottles of them. And there’s almost always an open bottle of Pinot Noir or Cabernet on the kitchen counter. But these lures hold no temptation for me.
That’s got me wondering if the real allure is not, in fact, alcohol, but hops. Obviously beer is made with hops while spirits such as whiskey and gin, are not. Could hops be the answer?
To test this theory, I ordered some more of my preferred non-alcoholic IPA (below) along with some Lagunitas Hoppy Water. I’ve found that these hoppy non-alcoholic drinks do help scratch that need to have a beer itch. Now I really want to put the theory to the test over the coming days and weeks.
