The Zero+ Sixer got me back on a downward weight trajectory. Of course, skipping beer for the NFL season opener was clutch. And it really wasn’t as hard as I anticipated. In fact, I’ve noticed the whole drinking beer drive getting lighter and lighter as time goes on. The lessening appears to go hand in hand with getting my sugar intake & sweet tooth under control and nearly to zero.

When it coming to sugar intake, it’s worth considering both sides of my alcohol struggle here. While there is a definite easing on the physical side, mentally, alcoholic leanings are very much still there.
I believe this physical easing may be a direct result of my targeted eradication of the sugar loving bacteria in my gut. I learned techniques for accomplishing this after reading The Plant Paradox by Doctor Steven Gundry. As a result, in 2018 I lost 45 pounds and got to my lowest weight since elementary school. Yes, that’s right, elementary school (hey, I was a ‘big boned’ youngster).
Essentially, the whole strategy of killing off your sugar loving bad bacteria (the ones that live in your gut) involves starving them out by NOT EATING certain foods. You know, foods they love and require: sugar, simple starches, alcohol, fruit (fructose), etc. These little bastards are responsible for your sugar cravings and resulting sweet tooth.
Sugar Has a Brain ‘Bat Phone’
How? Well, the bacteria living in your gut have a ‘Bat Phone’ to your brain. It’s called the Vagus Nerve. They use the vagus nerve to place their Grub Hub orders, and you run off and grab a candy bar or some pasta or worse and deliver it directly to them via your digestive track. They ‘tip’ you with a small dopamine rush.
The worst part? You thought the whole thing was your idea! Very, very sneaky of those little sugar monsters…
So how do you regain control of your mind and cravings? It’s easy! Cut off their food supply. And that’s what I plan to keep doing. In other words, I hope that by killing these bad bacteria off, I eliminate or reduce the Grub Hub orders for sugar and alcohol. As a result, the mental portion should begin to ease, as well. Additionally, I’m working to replace the bad guys with good bacteria that crave health things like salad. Sounds strange, but I know from personal experience that it works.
Covid may have knocked me off the wagon, but I’m climbing back on with a fresh commitment.
I’m feeling “Lucky” today. Accomplishing a Lucky would mean that I’ve only drank one of twenty days. As a bonus, I’ve had no pot in 57. Such a dramatic improvement encourages me, but there is still much to do.
Tomorrow, I continue the onslaught!
