I was happy to discover my best weight loss yet this morning when I weighed in. This along with my lowest BMI and Fat percentage readings. I still have about 15 pounds left to go in order to hit my pre-covid weight. According to the CDC, a healthy to normal BMI (body mass index) falls within the range of 18.5 to 24.9. You’re overweight if you are between 25 and 29.9. Over 30 and you’re obese.

I began my journey to rewire my brain and rebuild my body with a BMI over 30. And that was after I had already lost around eight pounds. So, it goes without saying I was healthily (or unhealthily) in obese territory and trending upward!
Since I hadn’t bought a bathroom scale yet, my only objective measurement of weight loss was my leather belt. By the time I got around to weighing myself regularly, I had already lost one belt loop.
Adjusting My Weight Loss Goals
As I learn more about what a healthy BMI is, I realize I will need to adjust my weight loss goals.
At 195, my BMI will be 26.4 (here is a BMI calculator you can try). This is still outside what the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) considers healthy. For me to break into the healthy BMI range, I’ll need to lose a bit more weight than I originally thought.
In fact, I’ll need to get my weight all the way down to 182 to be considered healthy from a BMI standpoint. I couldn’t tell you the last time I was 182 pounds. Believe it or not, that was probably sometime in elementary school! Back when I was a kid, I was considered ‘big boned’, lol.

Timing is Irrelevant
I think that at my current pace of weight loss, I’ll be somewhere between 195 and 200 pounds by Thanksgiving and possibly 190 pounds by Christmas. To get all the way down into the low 180s will probably take until the end of February. But, honestly, the timing is irrelevant.
However long it takes, it takes. While I’d like to stick to this weight loss schedule, I figure it took the better part of three years to put the Covid 38 on. If it takes 6-7 months or even a year to take it all off and eventually end up at my ideal weight, that’s okay with me.
Here’s the deal, the longer I take to lose the weight, the healthier that is, and the more likely it’ll stay off. By the time I get to 182, my healthy eating and exercise habits will be well ingrained. I won’t be on a diet. I’ll be living a healthy lifestyle.
A lifestyle without marijuana (and it’s resulting ‘munchies’), with significantly less or no alcohol, and with very little sugar or refined carbs. Man, will that feel incredible!
