Having completed my first Dry January in 2023, I found three things particularly helpful in getting me through the month: candy, NA Beer, and Dry January Memes.
The candy was straight addiction transfer. No sense in lying about it. The NA Beer was to scratch the itch of craving a cold beer while watching the NFL playoffs. And Dry January Memes were to give me a much needed laugh.
But rather than curate a bunch of previously existing Dry January Memes, I fired up my Canva account. I took a crack at making some of my own. While there may be widely varying opinions concerning whether any of these are funny, I can say that the process of making these memes was therapeutic. And by January 15th, I needed therapy!
It was fun to laugh at myself as I fought my way through Dry January. Especially during the first two weeks. Each of these memes represents a thought I had or emotion I felt sometime during the course of my first full dry month. I hope you enjoy them! But even if you don’t let me know why they suck in the comments below.
My Attempt At Funny Dry January Memes
Meme #1: We always jump enthusiastically into the New Year with the best intentions. Even if we start off a little behind the eight ball.
Meme #2: I was an eager beaver ready to tackle a sober month ahead, until that sober month was upon me. Suddenly things seemed a bit more daunting!
Meme #3: The first week of Dry January felt like a month a to me! It got better as time went on, but I have to be honest, every day I kept asking myself, “Are we there yet? Are we there yet?”
Meme #4: I remember reminding myself on Day 3 that I was almost 10% of the way through January. 10%…. How sad is that?
Meme #5: And I was under the delusion that Dry January would be this crazy healthy month of drinking green smoothies, intermittent fasting, and salads. But instead, it turned out to be a month of candy, cookies, and ice cream! Oh my!
Meme #6: Okay, I always knew Dry January wasn’t about the weather. But when I saw this guy it occured to me that it’s possible some people just might.
Meme #7: And then, suddenly, it was February 1st and I felt like a cool cat. I had done it! I made it 31 days without a drink, setting a new sobriety record for myself!
Meme #8: I found myself crushing a lot of non-alcoholic beer cans last month. Not quite as manly as crushing a ‘real’ beer can on my forehead. But it’s the thought that counts. And without alcohol, I was thinking very clearly during Dry January. The great news is that during the process of trying a bunch of them, I discovered some great NA beers. I even poured one in a glass. And passed it off as a real beer to my father in law, lol. And he had no idea!
Meme #9: I’m pretty sure I had a similar look of stupid bewilderment on my face when I woke up on February 1st. With Dry January now behind me, the world was my oyster! Can you say, beer o’clock?
Meme #10: I have to admit, I thought about running out and grabbing some ‘real’ beer today (Feb 1st). Afterall, shouldn’t I celebrate my very successful & first Dry January? In the end, I tacked on another sober day, to make it 32. Will Dry January become Dry February? What a great excuse for me to make some more cheesy memes! (If you’d like to prevent this from happening, please comment below)
Meme #11: I’m no superhero, but I sure felt like one on February 1st. And I have a whole new appreciation for those brave individuals who manage to be dry 12 months a year! I am humbled by your accomplishment and take inspiration from your devotion to sobriety!
That’s all for this year’s Dry January Memes. I hope you enjoyed them. Please share these memes with anyone who needs inspiration to get through a dry day, week, or month. Dry January, Sober October, or whatever. You don’t need a special occasion to take a break from drinking. And you may be surprised at the good it does you.
