So, to recap. I was binge drinking and pot smoking away a conservative $4,200 a year. Then I sobered up. Now I’m taking that $4,200 in sober savings and investing it in my sober investment portfolio. And I already have a few thousand dollars stashed away.
If I’m able to keep this up for 20 years and match the S&P 500 benchmark, I’ll turn $0 into $84,000 and $84,000 into $356,431.15.
I am resolved that there will be no drinking until after Thanksgiving, preferably not until after achieving my first Thrice Lucky and weighing less than 200 pounds. That’s the goal anyway. It’s the redemption I need right now.
Ugh, I really should have checked the alcohol content (%) of the beer before I bought it. Especially for a guy who’s trying to be mindful of his alcohol consumption! Turns out, these particular IPAs were 8.5% pints. That’s like totally danger zone for me.
Over the past few years, I would reflect on my lost creativity. I often wondered where the hell it disappeared to. When I think of the times I was happiest, truly in my happy place, it was when I was creating. I falsely believed that alcohol and marijuana would somehow unleash my creativity. Sadly, this false belief drove much of my drinking and drugging over the past twenty years.
When asked why I didn’t want my usual beer, I blamed my adherence to the Plant Paradox diet. This is not entirely untrue, but, you know, explaining the whole gray area drinking, sober curious thing is, well, not something you do with your ‘drinking buddies’.
