Sobriety Pays! Portfolio Full Year Update
I’m not only not losing this money anymore, but my vice money is actually paying me!

I’ve been questioning the increasingly slippery slope of my use disorder and considering a path toward sobriety for years now.
I’m happy to report, today is day 90 of my consecutive meditation practice. Making contemplation a daily habit has changed my life positively in so many ways, including the development of a quiet mind. And I have no intention of stopping now. Skipping morning meditation at this point would be akin to skipping my morning coffee. That’s sacrilege!
As drinking alcohol took primary focus on the days I was imbibing, it began to supercede eating dinner. I would crack a beer open as I was walking in the garage. It was the first thing I did after parking the car in the driveway! Soon I’d be 3-5 beers in and realized I forgot to eat.
I find that the more I let go of alcohol and marijuana addiction, the greater the gravity I feel pulling me forward. I feel less anchored in the past or badgered by The Judge.
I have to admit, driving past that liquor store on the days I go into the office can be quite tempting. They have a fine selection of ice cold IPAs in nice big pint cans. Four packs and six packs. All lined up and waiting to be drank.
Until mindfulness led me to meaningfulness, I never perceived alcohol or pot as impediments. Sure, it wasn’t the most productive use of my time, but it was compatible with the lifestyle it created for itself. It had set me up to think sobriety was the impediment. Think about that. It’s crazy!
