This led my to a consideration of card games as a proxy for predetermination. If we consider that the act of shuffling the cards randomizes their order and therefore determines how those cards are dealt and/or later drawn, there is little doubt that shuffling ultimately influences the outcome of the game.
As I’ve written previously, the urge to smoke weed, eat it, or otherwise consume it vanished suddenly around a month into daily meditation. I didn’t quit weed. Weed quit me and I’ve been marijuana free ever since. As I’ve mentioned, it’s a different experience with alcohol and beer.
I almost titled this post: Dominic’s Very Very Quite Dry and Incredibly Boring January – Part 1, but I thought that would sound whiny and complainy, so Dominic’s Very Dry January Part 1 it is.
You could say that between the exhaustion, weight gain, and increasing frequency of negative thinking, I had become sober curious. Should I go to AA like my brother, sister-in-law, and a good buddy of mine? Did I need that kind of help? I was certainly open to the idea. Especially since I had noticed a new drinking motivation arising: drinking to relieve hangovers.
It appears, happily, that my lack of munchies (since kicking my marijuana smoking habit) and my drastic reduction in drinking have given me quite the head start! This makes me wish I had bought the scale sooner so I could have tracked definitive numbers. But, my joy at seeing the readout on the scale this morning was priceless. I’ll take the upside surprise any day of the week!
