Day 31 – The Powerful Paradox
As I look at a Sober September, that voice is already hinting at what we will drink to celebrate sobriety on the first day of October. Talk about a powerful paradox!

Today I am 100 days free from pot! I’m convinced that smoking pot places a huge fog machine in the brain and clouds the mind for many days following its use.
Sitting at the bar for dinner is quite a challenge when you’re trying to refrain from drinking alcohol. Lately, I’ve felt less inclined to spend time in the mountains because I know I won’t be drinking and if I do, I’ll be doing so mindfully. And mindfully is a code word for – drinking without getting drunk.
So, I fight like a champ to get past Drinkie last night, and what am I confronted with as I crest the big hill on the trail behind my house? An unopened beer. It was just sitting all by itself on a fence post. In the 23 years I’ve been hiking this trail, I’ve never encountered beer on a fence post. Never.
I’m happy to report, today is day 90 of my consecutive meditation practice. Making contemplation a daily habit has changed my life positively in so many ways, including the development of a quiet mind. And I have no intention of stopping now. Skipping morning meditation at this point would be akin to skipping my morning coffee. That’s sacrilege!

Only snow,
Falling incessantly”
