Sober October – It’s Baaaaaaack!
“Sober October?” I reflected. I had never heard the term, but somehow I felt myself drawn to it. By this point in the pandemic I was drinking like a fish nearly every night and a break from alcohol seemed alluring.
A human with a simple mission: explore how meditation can rewire the brain and rebuild the body. Can mindfulness meditation mitigate addiction? Do meditation and mindfulness ultimately free us from mind altering substances and other harmful vices such as overeating? What about other destructive habits and negative thought patterns? Dominic started ReturnonSobriety with the goal of exploring all of the various benefits (returns) that may be derived from a contemplative and sober life.

To be sober, to me, means sobriety in all things. And I’ll know when I arrive because I’ll finally be free. Truly.
When we work to accept impermanence we begin to realize that the past is already gone and the future is not guaranteed. So we stop giving the past and the the future so much of our attention. We stop living there. We embrace the present and savior it precious fleeting nectar.
In recent years, a new trend called “Cali Sober” has gained popularity, particularly among millennials and Gen Z. Cali Sober, short for “California Sober,” refers to a lifestyle where individuals abstain from hard drugs and alcohol. They still indulge in cannabis use.
My biggest argument for sober investing is that right now if you’re spending all this cash on your addictions and vices. It’s gone… forever. Thus, risking vice money in the stock market is actually a lot less risky than other money. But I’m not only not losing this money anymore, but my vice money is actually paying me!
